      Welcome to The Pink Monogram!

The Pink Monogram was born from the mind of a woman who believed anything could be improved with a monogram and wasn’t afraid to prove it.

The spark began at Monica’s kitchen table with a sewing machine, smocked dresses, and a head full of ideas. What started as a creative outlet soon turned into something bigger: a business that would grow, evolve, and eventually become a full-fledged family operation. Today, The Pink Monogram is still built on the same foundations of creativity, craftsmanship, and a love of all things personal, just with a bigger team and a much larger stitch count.

Monica, a Converse College graduate with a Masters of Education, spent 20 years as a first-grade teacher, pouring energy and creativity into her classroom. While raising her children, she discovered sewing and embroidery and quickly taught herself the craft, despite never having sewn before. She started with embroidered towels, linens, and monogrammed baby gifts. Her creations caught the attention of friends and neighbors, and quickly her one-woman hobby had turned into a side hustle with real momentum.

In the summer of 2001, just weeks before a new school year, Monica made the leap. She left teaching and launched The Pink Monogram full time from the basement of her home in Greenville, South Carolina.

In those early years, she focused on made-to-order pieces like ribbon belts, place mat handbags, monogrammed towels, headbands, and personalized gifts. The turning point came with the introduction of The Monogrammed Clogs. These featured embroidered uppers made of suede, wool, or leather, hand-cobbled into clogs and heels in a range of styles, all made in the USA. The product took off. Monica began attending trade shows like Atlanta’s AmericasMart and was ahead of the curve with the launch of www.thepinkmonogram.com, one of the first e-commerce platforms of its kind in the industry. She quickly signed retail partners across the country, eventually reaching over 500 stores.

As orders increased, so did the need for support. Her husband Jon joined the business full time in 2006, managing machine maintenance, accounting, and customer service. Monica’s parents pitched in too. Her father packed boxes while her mother helped with the kids and filled orders. It was truly a family affair. Employees were hired, machines were added, and The Pink Monogram quickly outgrew its basement beginnings.

The company opened its first storefront off Augusta Street in Greenville and, over the years, moved into several new spaces in the same neighborhood. Since 2017, it has called 6A Aberdeen Drive home, a spot that reflects the brand’s identity: bright, bold, and full of heart. No matter how it grows, The Pink Monogram remains proudly rooted in Greenville.

As word spread, recognition followed. Monica was nominated for Business Person of the Year by Greenville Magazine in 2007. Her work was featured in Southern Living, and in both 2008 and 2010, The Pink Monogram was spotlighted on Oprah’s O List, first for a unique monogrammed gift and later for the iconic high-heel monogrammed clog. These moments brought national attention, but the brand’s strength has always come from its originality and Southern charm.

During this time, Monica expanded the product line and partnered with artisans to offer custom-engraved monogram jewelry, fine linens, stationery, and large-scale embroidery for interior design projects. These services remain a key part of the company’s offerings today.

While the retail world was changing with the rise of online shopping, Monica was already ahead of the curve. Her early investment in a full e-commerce platform helped customers personalize and shop online long before most boutiques had websites. This digital presence, combined with a strong local identity, helped The Pink Monogram stay nimble and creative through the years.

In 2020, everything shifted. As the world slowed down, Monica’s daughter Wilson—then a soon-to-be Clemson graduate—moved back home. When a local social media post called for fabric mask makers, Monica saw an opportunity and rallied the family. Together with Wilson, Jon, and a few helpers, began producing double-layered masks for both the local community and their website. What began as a temporary pivot quickly became a turning point.

Wilson’s role quickly expanded as she mastered the embroidery machines, embraced customer service, and took charge of The Pink Monogram’s social media and online voice. Over the past five years, she has become a vital force in the brand’s growth. Her keen creative eye, fresh perspective, and innate sense of style have injected new energy into every aspect of the business. She brings a special touch and creativity that customers love, and many come in just to see her and experience that personal connection.

Monica’s passion and artistry remain at the heart of The Pink Monogram but now she shares that creative space with her daughter, a full-circle moment from those first handmade gifts. Having Wilson in the store has allowed Monica to step back from some day-to-day operations and rediscover her own creativity. This shift also paved the way for new growth as the business expanded its corporate and promotional embroidery services, partnering with fellow small businesses to create custom-branded apparel and merchandise. Additionally, The Pink Monogram has been able to take on even more custom projects, including large-scale designs and one-of-a-kind pieces. This now-thriving branch reflects the same spirit of customization and community that the company was built on.

Together, Monica and Wilson have shaped The Pink Monogram into a multi-generational, woman-owned business at the heart of a family-run legacy. With Jon’s steady support behind the scenes, this creative family leadership is proudly passed down from one generation to the next, ensuring The Pink Monogram’s spirit and women-led vision continue to thrive, built on a belief in the beauty of personalization, the power of a good idea, and the joy of sharing it with others, one stitch at a time.
